Lou's Reviews :: MAC MSF Soft and Gentle

Aloha Sprinklerinos,
For the past few months, I have had one question in particular popping up over and over again on YouTube and I decided it might be a good idea to make the answer into a blog post.

The question I have been asked is what have I been wearing on my cheeks to make them look so glowy? I must say, I have been pleased as punch with all the lovely comments telling me I look radiant or healthy or even gorgeous! I can assure you it's all cosmetic and isn't that 'pregnancy glow'. There's no bun in this oven!

MAC Soft and Gentle is part of the Mineralised Skin Finish (MSF) family and since buying it in September 2011, has been reached for almost every day.

With swirling marbleised colours of gold, bronze and tan, it gives my skin the most beautiful luminous finish without it depositing little flecks of glitter. Obviously, I have no issue with glitter, in fact I embrace it, but there are times when a soft shimmer is preferential to sparkletown.

I apply it quickly and easily with a domed kabuki brush and find it blends really well into foundation, powder and bronzer. It really does tickle my pickle.

(I can't tell you how annoying that teeny smudge under my eye is to me. I nearly didn't put this photo in but it demonstrates how dewy brilliant the Soft and Gentle is dans la skin)

The slightly unhinged addict in me is a little sad that I have used so much that there is no longer the domed effect in the pan, but if you check out the website photo, you can see one in all it's newy glory. In hindsight, I probably should have snapped this when I first bought it last year, but I have been loving it so much that it's not left my makeup bag.

This lovely product retails for £21.50. To me, it's a luxury purchase, but one that I'll repeat because the quality is fantastic, it lasts an age (6 months in and yet to hit pan) and it's lead to a flurry of kind compliments- and you can't put a price on that!

Have you tried this highlighter? What are your thoughts on it?

Toodlepip!

xx

  1. I've had my Soft & Gentle since December 2009 and STILL haven't hit pan despite using it nearly every day. I've got a few other MSFs but I still reach for this beauty (my first and love of life) frequently. Hands down the best highlighter out there! x

  4. I remember walking into a mac store over and over and browsing but never buying, when I finally plucked up the courage and the cash to splurge soft and gentle was the first thing I picked up! and there's not been day that I've regretted it! In fact I love it so much I hardly ever use it just so I can keep that oh so beautiful dome! *sigh* but seeing your lovely pics and how much love you've shown yours I kind of feel a bit cruel not showing mine as much love as it deserves....I'll be using it much more now :D

  21. It looks lovely on you :) I would be worried about trying such a product as I have pale skin, but actually it doesn't seem so dark on the skin, just 'glowy', which is always a good thing.

I have the same sadness when I use a product and 'disfigure' it in some way, so much so that sometimes I don't use it at all, which is, er, a waste. This still looks pretty without the dome though, cos it's all marbley and lovely.

    I'll stop waffling now xx

PS Love your blog, I'm following you now (no way of making that sound less weird).

  34. Hi Louise, could you read my blog please and let me know what you think, I want to start vlogging but will not let myself invest in a camcorder until I have successfully set up a blog and has some feedback that it is worthwhile!! I am working on a NARS haul at the moment too to upload, as I have been on a search for a new foundation since the Chanel Pro-Lumiere is no longer and I think NARS sheer glow has filled my void....please read :o) thank you xxxx http://jessica-jjc.blogspot.com/

  37. Wah! £20?? Thats veerrry steep for me! However I've been on a mission for dewy-not-greasy skin, and this looks like a must have.

I've only tried liquid highlighters and i struggle to blend them right. I may try and find a dupe somewhere! x

  45. I have the MAC MSF Soft and Gentle too and I love it! I must have bought mine about last April. I bought it with the intention to put it in my kit to use on clients as I was still at college at the time but it kept finding it's way into my own make-up bag. Oops lol. After 10 months of being used almost everyday I still have loads of product left and haven't hit pan. I only use a little everyday so I think that helps it last but it means that I don't mind paying £21.50 because it's once in a blue moon you have to repurchase. There's also a Collection 2000 highlighter that I love. I can't remember the name of it but I think I paid about £2 and had it for ages. I was always complimented and asked what I was wearing. Good old Collection 2000 :)
